Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said Ukraine is prepared to restore electricity to Crimea after more than a month of severe outages, but only if the peninsula annexed by Russia rejoins Ukraine.
After the $1.8 trillion budget deal was struck between President Barack Obama and the Republican majority in Congress, the White House praised the removal of numerous “ideological riders,” while Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) trumpeted the $64 million aid for European countries “facing Russian aggression.”
The US$64 billion dollars set aside by Congress to fight “Russian aggression” could end up in the hands of far-right groups like the Azov Battalion, The Nation reports.

Ukraine’s president, Petro Poroshenko, said on Thursday he expected territory in the east held by Russian-backed rebels to return to Ukrainian control before the end of the year. At the same time, he said he hopes to set into motion mechanisms that would lead to the “de-occupation” of Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.
Ukraine has pledged to regain full control of its territory this year by ending a Russian-backed insurgency in the east, and called for agreement on a new timetable for implementation of a fragile peace deal supposed to be fulfilled in 2015.
