Ukraine’s parliament has 300 votes needed to pass decentralization-related amendments to the Ukrainian constitution in the second reading but suspense over the voting will be kept “until the very last minute,” speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, or Ukrainian parliament, Vladimir Groisman said on Sunday.
KYIV, January 17. /TASS/. The coalition in Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament) is looking at replacing a number of ministers in the Arseniy Yatsenyuk government, Rada speaker Vladimir Groisman said on Sunday.
“The long-awaited entry into force of Ukraine’s Association Agreement with the European Union, instead of reviving the country’s economy, will lead to its total deindustrialization and degradation,” the newspaper writes, citing former Institute of World Economy researcher Vsevolod Stepaniuc, who said as much at a press conference in Kyiv last week. In Stepaniuc’s words, the agreement “provides for nothing else but the production of raw materials and the development of ‘dirty’ sectors of Ukraine’s economy.”

An Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) vehicle was hit with small-arms fire in an area controlled by Ukrainian forces fighting pro-Russian separatists, monitors said on the organization’s website.

DEBALTSEVO (Donetsk region) (Sputnik) – The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe’s (OSCE) has taken a passive stance toward Ukrainian forces seizing territory inside the buffer zone separating the warring sides, the chief negotiator from the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) said Sunday. By failing to put a stop to Kyiv’s advances, the intergovernmental association is putting the country at risk of new hostilities.
