KYIV, December 25. /TASS/. Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, has approved the state budget for the next year taking into consideration amendments to the country’s tax legislation.
Moscow and Kyiv have been locked in a bitter showdown over a Russian $3 billion loan granted to the pro-Moscow regime of ex-president Viktor Yanukovych in December 2013, not long before he was ousted and fled to Russia.
The Government of Ukraine has imposed the moratorium on repayment of the so-called Russian debt.
Ukraine’s Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko said the country was “committed to working in good faith to finding a resolution”, and that talks with the Russian side were continuing.
The moratorium means that Ukraine is likely to default on the debt, which is due on Sunday.
KYIV (Sputnik) – The legislation was supported by over 230 Rada members on Friday and will now go to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko for signing.
