The new police will start patrolling the streets in Odesa no later than September, President Poroshenko says
This month, the US government plans to send police officers from California’s Highway Patrol to help train Odesa’s new cadets. This was announced by the US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt during at a press conference with Odesa regional governor Mikheil Saakashvili, on July 6 in Odesa.
Geoffrey Pyatt: “On Saturday, I was honored to join the President and Prime Minister as we inaugurated the new Patrol Police. Next week, a number of officers from my home state of California – from the California Highway Patrol – will deploy here to Odesa. These California Highway Patrols will be trainers, helping to establish a new Odesa Patrol Police at the same high standards as the new force in Kyiv, a force which is professional and, most importantly, un-corruptible”.
On July 8, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that brand new police will start patrolling the streets of Odesa no later than September.
“I look forward to September when we’ll launch a patrol police service in Odesa,” Poroshenko said at a meeting with regional governors, Kyiv city administration head, chiefs of government and law enforcement agencies in Odesa on Wednesday, according to UNIAN.

Kyiv’s new street patrol police officers gave an oath rite during a ceremony in the capital on July 4. Some 2,000 street patrol police officers took the oath before starting their patrols on the streets of Kyiv.
