Sofia. Ministers of foreign affairs of Bulgaria and Ukraine, for the first time jointly visited the Bulgarians in Odessa and Bolhrad.
Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov announced the news before journalists in Kyiv, the special messenger of FOCUS News Agency to Ukraine announced.
“That is a sign not just of Bulgaria’s commitment to our compatriots in Ukraine, but also commitment of Ukraine, which in these hard moments needs support and we as EU member state and friendly country to Ukraine will do everything possible, so that Ukraine to walk the path to European membership as fast as possible,” Minister Mitov said.
The Minister specified, however, that Ukraine must give clear signals to show its commitment to the Bulgarian minority there.
“The bilateral agreement between Bulgaria and the U.S. for the deployment of military equipment on our territory is the legal frame used as guarantee for implementation of NATO’s decisions”, Daniel Mitov told journalists in Kyiv, in a commentary to a statement made by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“NATO has taken certain decisions during the Summit in Wales and we express our agreement through this declaration. The declaration states that NATO will intensify drilling on the Eastern flag and will guarantee security to all member states of the Alliance and will demonstrate its willingness. I.e. it will demonstrate the fact that the Article 5 commitment of the Washington Treaty is alive and NATO will protect any of the member states.
Every member state creates their instruments to implement these decisions. The U.S. have the so-called measures to guarantee security of the European countries. That is their instrument, and the bilateral agreement is the legal frame we use to guarantee the implementation of NATO decisions,” Minister Mitov specified.
