Manchester City and West Ham are shock contenders to sign former Everton winger Royston Drenthe on a free transfer.
The Dutch flyer is up for grabs after leaving Real Madrid at the end of his contract this summer, but won’t be heading back to Goodison Park after a bust-up with boss David Moyes that cut short his spell with the Toffees.
And the 25-year-old wide man has attracted surprise interest from Barclays Premier League champions City and new boys West Ham, according to his representative, as well as from clubs in Italy, Turkey and Ukraine.

Flying Dutchman: Royston Drenthe spent last season on loan at Everton
‘We didn’t expect to be called by Manchester City and West Ham, but they asked me for information on Royston and his wage demands,’ Serkan Kulup told Goal.com.
‘There are also Serie A clubs on him, not to mention Turkish sides and Dynamo Kyiv. We certainly cannot complain, but the important thing is that Royston gets back to the playing field.
‘He would prefer to play for a club in the Champions League, so Manchester City, Dynamo Kyiv and a big Turkish side are the favourites at the moment.’
Drenthe, 25, spent five years at the Bernabeu but was shipped out on loan to both Spanish side Hercules and Everton, where he made 25 appearances, scoring four goals.

Oooooh ! Bobby Manc won’t like having to shop at Poundsavers after a few years of Harrod’s !
This could be the season he gets found out as the ultimate cheque book manager !

I hope he goes to City. Should be fun with all those egos. Drenthe is a talented footballer but does not understand the concept of team. As an Everton fan I have never seen such a frustrating player. Sign him up Mancini you joke!

It’s not so much budget cuts as perhaps an owner asking (not unreasonably) his very very well paid manager to actually do his job and fashion a top team out of the already plentiful and expensive ingredients with which he has been so generously provided. Or perhaps to bring someone in from that youth academy he also spent lots of money on. Not a big ask for a proper manager….for Bobby ‘chequebook’ Manc…who knows?

Decent player. Did ok for us but could be very frustrating. It says something about how bad his attitude must be when we cut short his loan despite him being available for free and us having a very small squad. He even begged Feyenoord to take him back with them being in the Champions League and they refused. If he got his act together he could be a good signing for someone.

I would have him… Better than Scott Sinclair I tell you…. BRING HIM!!!!
