Initial reports suggested the deal had fallen through, but Belhanda has since moved to quash suggestions that he had decided cancel the switch to Kyiv.

The 23-year-old, who was entering the final year of the contract with Montpellier, has joined Oleh Blokhin’s side on a five-year contract for a fee believed to be in the region of €10million.

Confirming his transfer to the Ukranian capital, Belhanda told the club’s official website: “I’m very glad to be a Dynamo player.

“I have signed a five-year contract with the club. This is a top-level team who I want to play for and win trophies with.”

When quizzed on the confusion created by reports in the French press, Belhanda said: “I will not comment on rumours which appeared in the French press. I can only say that I’m a Dynamo player and will represent the colours of the club in the coming years.

“I am very glad to become a player of Dynamo Kyiv. The day before yesterday [Sunday] I signed a five-year contract with the club.

“Dynamo are the top club in Europe, who I very much want to play for and with whom I dream to win the Ukrainian championship.

“I hope to play a key role in the team, especially in the Europa League.”

Belhanda made his Montpellier debut in 2009, having spent the previous six years progressing through the Ligue 1 club’s youth system.

He went on to make 142 first-team appearances in all competitions, scoring 29 goals in the process.
