Ban Ki-Moon To Visit Kyiv
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is due to visit Kyiv on March 21 in a bid to deescalate the crisis over Crimea.
Ban will meet with Ukrainian acting President Oleksandr Turchynov and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, one day after the UN chief met in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In Moscow, Ban told Putin he is “deeply concerned” over the Ukraine crisis.
The UN has said Ban hopes to persuade the Russian and Ukrainian sides to start a direct dialogue to ensure a political solution.
The world body also says a 34-member UN human rights monitoring mission is expected to deploy in eastern Ukraine by Friday to check for abuses.
