Ukraine has been thrust into a new political crisis after the economic minister and his team tendered their resignations complaining of ingrained corruption, which has replaced the simmering separatist conflict as the country’s main obstacle to reform.
KYIV: War-weary Ukraine is struggling to recruit soldiers to fight pro-Russian separatists in the east, with enthusiasm sapped by reports of ill-equipped troops and poor treatment of families of missing soldiers.
The head of Ukraine’s Parliament said Thursday his country was entering another “serious political crisis,” Agence France-Presse reported. The remarks come one day after the resignation of Ukraine’s economic minister over claims of corruption and the blocking of reform efforts by allies of the country’s president.
Trade without the Kremlin continues. The Ukrainian government is upbeat about its new ‘Silk Road’ transport route. It takes goods to China whilst bypassing Russia. A first test shipment took 15 days to reach its destination rather than the planned 11. But officials say all issues will quickly be resolved.
