Krysa was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, to a musical family and began his formal studies as a violinist at the Moscow Conservatory. After moving to the United States in 1989, he earned master’s degrees in both violin performance and orchestral conducting. As a violinist, Krysa has held positions with the New World Symphony and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestras. He was appointed as the director of orchestras at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in August 2006.
Krysa and the orchestra will also be joined by Solomiya Ivakhiv, the impressive violinist heard around the world. Born in Ukraine, she made her debut with the Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 13 and has won top prizes including the Sergei Prokofiev Competition, Fritz Kreisler Charles Miller Award from the Curtis Institute of Music and an award from the president of Ukraine.
The orchestral program will include Ravel’s “Daphnis and Chloe Suite No. 2,” Ives’ “The Unanswered Question” and Debussy’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun.” Ivakhiv will close the program with Barber’s Violin Concerto.
This concert is filled with mystifying orchestral colors and imagery – an afternoon not to be missed.
