The Kyiv-based Antonov State Enterprise has presented programs for Ukraine’s aircraft industry at a recent seminar of the European Defense Agency (EDA) in Brussels regarding the development of the European Union’s air transport opportunities.
The company’s press service told Interfax-Ukraine that during its presentation, Antonov demonstrated the capabilities of the new An-178 and An-70 military transport aircraft, as well as the An-124-100 Ruslan heavy transport aircraft and the An-32 multipurpose aircraft, which are well-known on the market.
The vice president and deputy general designer of the Antonov State Enterprise, Oleksandr Kiva, said that Antonov had proposed uniting the efforts of European countries to implement pan-European programs under the auspices of the Euro-Atlantic Coordination Disaster Response Coordination Center.
He said that the Ukrainian An-32P could effectively solve main air transport tasks, in particular, to deliver humanitarian cargo (medicines, food, clothing, etc.), evacuate injured people and carry out aerial firefighting.
Kiva also announced Antonov’s proposals in terms of possible joint research and development projects, including those on the upgrading and maintenance of Antonov aircraft, the training of flight and technical crews of Antonov aircraft, and strategic and tactical air transportation.
“Mutual interest in cooperation was confirmed during the talks held as part of the seminar with representatives of various countries in Europe,” the press service said.
The seminar was attended by representatives of 22 EU countries, the European Commission, the EU Military Staff, the EU Military Committee, the European Air Transport Command, a number of aircraft producers and air carriers.
