Amended visa facilitation agreement between Ukraine and EU to take effect July 1 – WAM

WAM KYIV, 16th May 2013 (WAM) — The amended visa facilitation agreement between Ukraine and the EU will enter into force July 1, 2013, Acting Director of the Information Policy Department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Yevhen Perebyinis briefed the press in Kyiv on Wednesday, UKRINFORM reported.

“The agreement will enter into force on July 1 this year,” he said.

The diplomat added that in Brussels in the framework of the VIII meeting of the joint committee of experts on the implementation of the Agreement between Ukraine and the EU on visa facilitation the sides exchanged official reports on the completion of the procedures necessary for the entry into force of this instrument.

Perebyinis also noted that Ukraine considers the entry into force of the agreement as an important element of approaching to the key objective – the introduction of the EU visa-free regime for the citizens of Ukraine.

On April 18, 2013, the European Parliament supported a legislative proposal, recommending that the Council of the European Union approve the Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union amending the Agreement between Ukraine and the European Community on the facilitation of issuance of visas.

The Council of the European Union approved the ratification of the amended visa facilitation agreement between the EU and Ukraine on May 13.
