ACB will have authority to detain suspects and give protection to witnesses
The Anti-Corruption Bureau, currently being formed in Ukraine will be an independent agency with its detectives and marshals to detain suspects and guard witnesses, ACB chief Artem Sytnyk told journalists in Kyiv May 18. .
“We will not ask any law enforcement agency to arrest suspects – we will do it ourselves,” he said.
ACB will employ 255 detectives and assistant staff, he said.
ACB is scheduled to start its activities by the year-end.
Two candidates to head the ACB were selected by an independent committee made of experts, public figures, journalists. Then, one of them was appointed by Pres Poroshenko.
