ACB opens firing line of corrupt officials

The national Anti-Corruption Bureau detectives are already gathering information about top-level corrupt officials, ACB chief Artem Sytnyk told journalists in Brussels, UNIAN reports Oct. 29.

As soon as the anti-corruption prosecutor is selected, ACB detectives will start their work, Sytnyk said.

Detectives are gathering evidence about corrupt officials but they cannot proceed to submit it to courts without a prosecutor, he explained.

Corruption is Ukraine’s enemy No. 1. However, if it takes the ACB longer than a year and a half to curb the level of graft, Ukraine will sink in chaos, he said.

When top corrupt officials get sentenced and the money they stole reimbursed to the budget then Ukrainians will realize that the law is the same for all, he said.

ACB alone cannot kill corruption, he said, economic reforms are needed to deal with graft.
