British broadcaster Absolute Radio has secured live commentary rights to ten Uefa Euro 2012 matches, including all of England and Ireland’s group games.
In addition to the two countries’ first round matches, the national station will air two quarter finals, one semi-final and the final, which takes place in Kyiv on 1st July.
The coverage will run on Absolute Radio’s FM frequency in London and AM frequencies nationwide, with every match also available on digital radio, the internet, mobile phones and digital TV.
Commentary will be provided by ex-Talksport commentator Jim Proudfoot, while former England and Arsenal player Ian Wright will host a tea-time show during the tournament, which kicks off on 8th June.
“Absolute Radio broadcasting England and Ireland Uefa Euro 2012 matches across the network with the introduction of FM will take Rock ‘N’ Roll football to new heights this summer,” said Paul Sylvester, the station’s head of presentation. “Wrighty’s been there, he’s done it and he knows what the players will be going through. He’ll have an amazing insight and will give his views in his brilliantly unique way.”
Absolute Radio, which is currently in the second year of a three-year deal to broadcast action from England’s Premier League, will compete with BBC Radio 5 Live and TalkSport, both of whom hold medium wave (MW) rights to all 31 matches in the tournament, for a share of the UK radio audience.
