DANCE

Love, Death, Devil – The Piece is a visually powerful contemporary dance work by German choreographer Ben J. Riepe, a former dancer of the Pina Bausch company. Wearing animal masks and period costumes, the six dancers confront each other in a kind of black abyss. Shouts are heard, but the world doesn’t listen. At 8 p.m. at Théâtre La Chapelle, 3700 St. Dominique St. Tickets: $28; $23 for students. Call 514-843-7738. (Victor Swoboda)

Petites Pièces de Poche: grandeur nature is the second half of a two-part work by Séverine Lombardo of Les Soeurs Schmutt that began with Switch. This half has sister Elodie Lombardo and three others performing under emphatic lighting by Alexandre Pilon Guay. At 8 p.m. at Usine C, 1345 Lalonde Ave. Tickets: $28; $20 for seniors and those under 30. Call 514-521-4493. (VS)

Swan Lake is performed with classical precision by the Kyiv Ballet, one of Europe’s largest and oldest ballet companies. The Kyiv version – originally created by Alexander Gorsky for the Bolshoi Ballet – ends happily, unlike the tragic versions most familiar in the West. Oleksiy Baklan leads a live orchestra playing Tchaikovsky’s incomparable score. At 8 p.m. at Salle Wilfrid Pelletier of Place des Arts. Tickets: $109.10 to $133; $67.90 to $82.26 for children under 12. Phone 514-842-2112 or visit pda.qc.ca. (VS)
